THE PERFECT ROAD TRIP TO THE NORTH COAST

THROUGH  COASTAL CULINARY TREASURES OF TILLAMOOK

January 2021

Discover unsuspected culinary delights at a local brewery, a French cheese company, and a hidden-gem shellfish farm as you make your way from Portland to Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa along the Tillamook Coast

From Portland, take US-26 W and OR-6 W to Tillamook county and wend your way through a coastal range studded with old-growth forests to the fertile valley of Tillamook. Cows aren’t the only attraction you will find here. The town of Tillamook has grown to offer a variety of spots to explore and places to eat.

STOP 1: Pelican Brewing – Tillamook Taproom – 1708 1st St. Tillamook, OR 97141

  • Take in all the action at a busy coastal brewery while you dine on classic brewpub fare and sip award-winning beers at Pelican Brewing Company in Tillamook. The Tillamook Taproom features both indoor and outdoor seating from which you can watch their facility brew up such classics as Kiwanda Cream Ale or Beak Break Double IPA while you enjoy a pint. Pelican Brewing is open daily from 12:00 – 8:00 pm.

STOP 2: Nevor Shellfish Farm – 6060 Whiskey Creek Rd. Tillamook, OR 97141

  • Head out of town towards pristine Netarts Bay and visit the critically acclaimed and little known Nevor Shellfish Farm, led by former Erizo chef Jacob Harth. The Nevor Shellfish Farm is an operational oyster and shellfish production facility with a small kitchen that serves a limited, delicious, seasonal seafood menu.  Dine on oysters from the bay, sardine toast, barnacles, and other local seafood fare while you take in the views of Netarts Bay. Nevor is open Friday through Sunday from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

STOP 3: Nestucca Bay Creamery – 34410 Highway 101 South Cloverdale, OR 97112

  • As you wind your way through coastal farmland and old-growth forests from Netarts Bay to the small coastal community of Cloverdale, you’ll find the Nestucca Bay Creamery, a fifth-generation Tillamook County dairy farm that creates handcrafted, farmstead, artisan cheeses. Stop in at their quaint farm stand and explore their highly sought-after farmstead cheeses, including Camembert, Meda, and Welsh-style cheese. Have a sweet tooth? The Creamery features handcrafted ice cream for you to enjoy while you take in the beauty of the Nestucca Valley. It’s a short 15-minute drive from the Creamery to Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa.

From Nestucca Bay Creamery, head sound and climb the beautiful, windy road towards  Cape Lookout  and Sandlake Road as you drive the final thirty-minute drive to Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa.
