EXPLORE THE COAST BY FAT TIRE BIKE

PEDALING THE NORTH COAST’S BEACHES AND TRAILS

August 2021

Head to the beach for a new adventure! The dramatic seascapes, towering old-growth Sitka spruce, and hidden trails that have made the Oregon coast famous also provide a magnificent backdrop to some of the most unique biking opportunities in the state. Whether you are an avid cyclist or a recreational biker, discover the thrill of peddling along the beach on a fat tire bike excursion. Fat tire bikes allow riders to traverse terrain of all sorts on their enormous tires, and they are perfectly suited for exploring the beaches of Oregon’s North Coast. At Headlands, we have a fleet of Specialized fat tire bikes and offer them as self-guided rentals or as private excursions with our Adventure Coaches. Our Adventure Team can assist you in planning which outing will best suit you during your stay.

Our self-guided trips are perfect for exploring the beaches around Headlands. Journey south to Bob Straub State Park or peddle further to reach the northern side of the mouth of the Nestucca River, along the way discover the myriad of wildlife and mazes of beach grass that border the shoreline. Enjoy a work-out paired with stunning views—head north over the Great Dune at Cape Kiwanda, traversing the less-traveled eastern slope of the dune as you peddle along miles of uninterrupted shoreline between McPhillips Beach and Tierra Del Mar. Or simply take a spin around town via the bike trails and public lands that wind through Pacific City. Don’t forget to reserve your Adventure Provisions picnic lunch from Meridian Restaurant & Bar, perfectly curated for your mid-ride break.

For a one-of-a-kind experience, reserve a private excursion led by our Adventure Coaches. Our Neskowin to Winema tour begins at Neskowin Beach and heads north past unique rock formations towards the south side of the Nestucca River mouth. Once there, look for seals and birds of prey before heading back towards Neskowin to check out the famed monolith, Proposal Rock. Or choose to venture out on the longer Bayocean Spit outing that travels along the lovely Tillamook Bay. This scenic spit was once the site of the town of Bayocean – a tourist location in the early twentieth century that had a post office, paved roads, and roughly two-thousand residents. Little remains beyond a few stone foundations peeking through the sand and the distinction of being Oregon’s only coastal ghost town.

After a day of exploring our magnificent surroundings by fat tire bike, combat sore muscles with a leisurely soak in our outdoor hot tub or a rejuvenating massage at Tidepools Spa & Wellness.
